The Afrikan Alliance of Social Democrats (AASD) is a political organization dedicated to the principles of freedom, democracy, and social justice in South Africa. Proud of the nation’s history of struggle and the attainment of freedom, the AASD acknowledges both progress and shortcomings in the democratic dispensation of the past two decades. The organization is committed to defending the hard-won freedoms and values enshrined in the South African Constitution, emphasizing the importance of socio-economic justice and a government by the people.
Recognizing the desire for a united, non-sexist, non-racial, and democratic society, the AASD aims to restore the dignity of the people, serving them with integrity. The organization pledges to build a strong social democratic society based on human solidarity, respect, and dignity for all.
The values upheld by the AASD include freedom and democracy, fairness, dignity for all, respect, integrity, social solidarity, and freedom of association and speech. These values guide their commitment to principles such as fundamental human rights, the fight against unfair discrimination, the supremacy of the South African Constitution, and the right to freedom of association, language, culture, and religion.
The AASD’s principles also encompass equality before the law, representative and participative governance, a people-centered and people-driven developmental state rooted in human solidarity, robust and peaceful political engagement, and the right to private ownership with adequate state support for the vulnerable. Their goals include achieving the right to shelter, health services, and a social safety net for those in need, as well as promoting a safe and secure sustainable environment. Empowerment through access to quality and affordable healthcare, education, and skills development programs is also a central focus for the Afrikan Alliance of Social Democrats.
